Bear Mountain and the Bridges of the Hudson

January 27 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

FREE
Bear-Mountain-Bridge

When the Bear Mountain Bridge opened in 1924, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, the first large bridge built to carry automobiles, and the first to rely on auto tolls to pay for its construction. It also opened the floodgates on an era of American bridge construction.

Harry Stanton, a member of the board of the New York State Bridge Authority, and a forty-year veteran of New York State and local transportation agencies, will present the history of the Bear Mountain Bridge. He will show and discuss the significance of the site it occupies and other unique crossings that followed which created the society and the prosperity of the modern Hudson Valley.
