How would you like to save money for your business and do something good for the environment at the same time?

Business owners are starting to realize that conserving energy and reducing waste helps impact bottom line profitability and it’s good for the entire community. That’s why KCC is partnering with Bedford 2020 and the Chambers of Bedford Village, Bedford Hills, & Mt. Kisco to host an evening workshop called “How to Put More Green in Your Business.”

Business owners attending the workshop will hear case studies from other small businesses that have already implemented cost-saving green measures; gain information about rebate programs, free-offers and low-cost financing; and have the opportunity to talk directly with the experts. Attendees will leave the workshop with easy, actionable steps that will result in reduced costs and positively impact the community.

The “Put More Green in Your Business” workshop takes place on Wednesday March 7th, 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Grand Prix New York Racing and Spins Bowl in Mt. Kisco. Along with the workshop, the evening includes networking, cocktails and appetizers. The first 50 businesses to register for the event receive a $20-gift certificate for Grand Prix New York racing or bowling. To register for the workshop or for more information, email: info@bedford2020.org or visit the website: www.bedford2020.org.

Bedford 2020 Coalition is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to organize, lead and promote a community-wide effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 20% by the year 2020, and to create a sustainable community that conserves its natural resources.

Kids in town get two chances to celebrate Halloween this year, on Halloween itself and on this coming Saturday (October 29th) when a spook-tacular day of fun and treats has been planned! Festivities begin with the annual Katonah Halloween Parade. This year the site has changed but not the spirit. On Saturday kids and their families can assemble at Katonah Elementary School to parade around the school. The parade starts at 10:15am and as always there will be apple cider and donuts. Immediately after the parade at 11:00am, the annual KES Halloween Fair begins. In town, later that day a number of stores will host events. At 1:00pm Jocko the Magician will be in front of Charles Department Store. Little Joe’s Books will have Scary Story Hour and treats throughout the day for anyone who comes to the store in costume. And Houlihan-Lawrence will be handing out pails to collect the Halloween goodies. There will be special happenings at other local shops so be sure to “treat” yourselves to a walk throughout Katonah. Click here for more information and a list of participating businesses for Halloween Treats in Town.

How would you like to come to a fabulous cocktail party and support an incredible local organization at the same time?

Many of us at the Katonah Chamber have long supported the Community Center of Northern Westchester. A Chamber member for close to two decades, the Center has provided supplemental food, clothing and other services to local residents needing assistance. The Community Center is a major focus for our community’s volunteerism and generosity – neighbors helping neighbors. It has made a difference for many of our neighbors trying to get back on their feet in this challenging economy.

The Center’s annual cocktail party, with a live and silent auction, is coming up on Saturday, October 15, at 6 pm, at the Fellowship Room of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bedford. This year, the event’s theme is “Building Partnerships” – a theme close to the heart of the Chamber. Sherry Wolf, the Center’s Executive Director who has spearheaded many of those partnerships, will be honored. It’s sure to be a lovely evening with friends and neighbors. For more information and to reserve your place at this event online, click here: Community Center Annual Benefit.

Find out more about what the Center is doing for our neighbors, at www.communitycenternw.org. If you’d like to partner with the Center in any of its worthy charitable activities, drop by the Center, or contact Sherry Wolf at communitycenter@optonline.net or (914) 232-6572.

Keeping her fingers on the pulse of the community, Jen Cook, owner of NoKa Joe’s is opening a space where families can go, a store for grandparents to buy toys and a place to nurture a child’s love of reading – a children’s bookstore.

Little Joe’s Books (which was the winning name in a contest Cook held) has its grand opening this week. Cook hopes the store, the only children’s bookstore in Northern Westchester, will quickly become a gathering place. The warm, comfortable space has a loft-like airy appeal and there are comfortable reading chairs and a great reading rug. NoKa Joe’s is already filled with families and teenagers on their own who come regularly for lattes, ice cream and candy. “Now they can wander upstairs, peruse the shelves, pick a book and stay for awhile. It is a natural extension for our current customers and it is our hope to draw new customers from surrounding communities.” says Cook.

Little Joe’s Books opens its doors this Thursday, October 6th and a weekend packed with reading and fun is planned mark the occasion:
